This is the time of year to tackle the ‘dull’  but important maintanance jobs that need to be done on good weather days:

– clean out gutters

– treat fences and trellis-work with preservative

– remove pumps from ponds and give them a clean and store them

– lag outside taps and pipes to protect them in freezing weather

– clean out bird feeders to stop diseases

– clean and oil garden tools ready for the spring…

Now for the ‘fun’ things:

– collect seed heads and cones and spray paint them to make your own Christmas decorations

– collect ivy and evergreens and get busy making your Christmas Wreath for your front door

– choose  your live Christmas tree and decorate

– enjoy winter walks and visiting winter gardens on good weather days

– treat the birds to fat seed balls and squares and watch them flock

– enjoy your garden on a winter day with a heavy hoar-frost everywhere

– catch up on your garden reading and seed catalogues in front of a real fire, toast your feet and enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple

– Look forward to the first signs of spring in January when the shoots of the  snow drops break through the earth…….

Happy Christmas!
