I am sure we have all had one or two deja vu moments in our lives, but I was not expecting a design one.  I had been asked to redesign the rear garden terrace of an Arts and Crafts House with a wide set of steps up to the terrace from the lawn. I felt very strongly the area at the top of the steps needed a focal point to draw you up the steps.  The client had a Lutyens style wooden bench elsewhere in the garden which I thought would look great there, so it was moved to the new position. The seat also allowed you to sit on the terrace with lovely views down across the lawn and garden.

Some time later I came across a book with a photograph of the house and terrace in earlier years – and there was a seat in the same position.  Now that is what I call a deja vu design moment!
